Bags And Bags Of Plastic

When we go shopping, mummy bean always tries to take a reusable bag. She has lots of different kinds: hessian bags, canvas tote bags and bags-for-life, which are recycled and replaced by the supermarket when they are too old. I sometimes get to help by carrying something in the bottom of my pram.

If she forgets and has to have a plastic bag then she saves them and takes them back to the supermarket to be recycled.

Using alternatives to plastic carrier bags is probably the biggest way the beans in our house cut down on plastic.

If you’d like to join in, mummy bean found this easy tutorial from Mollie Makes which shows you how to make your very own tote bag for shopping. Click here to have a go:

Don’t forget if we all do one little thing it adds up to one big thing, so next time you go shopping remember to take a reusable bag with you!

I love cotton and canvas totes. They’re not just useful for shopping. I use them for a lot of other things, too. They’re great for storing my grand-bean’s toys for when she visits. I also like them for carrying things to and from my office. And when they’re getting a bit too worn for that sort of use, they make good linings for boxes when you pack away winter/summer clothes.
