I keep hearing a lot about quilts. They sound hot to me and I’m already too hot. The voice said not to worry and that they are quilted pictures for my nursery. That’s where my new space is. Anyway the Voice wants to tell you about it.
I wanted some bright colourful pictures for the nursery decoration and I was thinking maybe a mural and then I remembered some wonderful blocks I’d completed, as part of a seaside themed quilt by Jane Andreoli. Jane, is a friend of mine and a very talented and creative quilter. She very kindly gave her time to show us all at quilt group how to make these blocks and in each one we learned a new technique.
They are perfect for the nursery! I backed them with calico and inserted tags to hang them with. Once quilted I used poly-dowels, usually used as supports in tiered cakes, and bright coloured shoelaces to hang them with.
I hope Bean will love them as much as I have making them.
If you’d like to have a go at making these blocks yourself, or even making the complete quilt, then the full instructions are available in back issues of the articles, via British Patchwork and Quilting. Each month contained instructions for a new block and the issues started in June 2013. Click here to find them. One of my blocks actually made it to the August 2013 edition!
